A single piece of knit that goes from a square neckline down to a hem that flares out from the knee, with a deep scoop taken out of the back. Nothing is layered and nothing is seamed at the waist, so the silhouette is decided by the pattern rather than by a belt or a drawcord.
One Piece, No Waist Join
The bodice and the leg are cut as one continuous panel, so there is no waistband to cut into the figure and nothing to ride up in a fold. On a fitted torso the only horizontal line is a single seam under the bust, and that seam is what keeps the bodice from pulling at the shoulder.
Deep Scoop Back to the Shoulder Blade
The back is scooped low and wide, finishing below the shoulder blade rather than across the mid-back. Because the neckline is square at the front and open at the back, the shoulder straps are wide enough to carry the bodice without digging in.
Flare That Starts Below the Knee
The leg runs straight to just below the knee and then opens out, so the flare reads as a deliberate shape rather than as a loose trouser. The sweep is drafted from the hem width you specify, which means you can run a narrower or fuller flare without re-cutting the bodice.

Where the Flare Is Set

A one-piece is unforgiving about stretch direction: if the bodice is cut on the cross and the leg on the length, the two halves recover at different rates and the whole garment twists at the seam. We cut every panel from the same direction on the same roll, and we test the flare by hanging a finished sample overnight before it goes to you. If your fabric is a new one we have not run, send a metre and we will confirm the block against it before cutting.

Will the flare still hang straight after a wash?
It will if every panel is cut on the same grain and from the same roll, which is how we cut a one-piece. A flare that goes wavy after laundering is almost always a grain problem rather than a fabric problem — usually the bodice has been cut on the cross and the leg on the length. We hang a finished sample overnight and check the hem line before the bulk cut, and if your fabric is new to us we run that check on a metre of it first.
Can the back scoop be made shallower for a fuller bust?
Yes, and it is a pattern change rather than a fit correction. A deeper scoop moves the load of the bodice forward, so on a fuller cup we raise the back scoop by the amount needed to keep the front from gapping. We would adjust the scoop depth on the pre-production sample rather than change the neckline width, because the neckline is what the buyer sees and the scoop depth is what the wearer feels.
How does a one-piece get graded for sizes without twisting at the seam?
We grade the bodice and the leg from the same size break, so the seam lines stay aligned across the range instead of drifting apart at the larger sizes. That costs one extra grading step up front, and it is the step that decides whether the largest size still hangs straight. If you sell against your own chart, send it and we grade to that rather than to a standard block.
What types of fabrics do you use for activewear?
We use a range of fabrics such as polyester, nylon, spandex, and eco-friendly materials like recycled polyester (RPET) and recycled nylon for premium and sustainable activewear. On a one-piece the fabric question is also a recovery question — tell us the stretch and the recovery you need and we confirm the block against your fabric before cutting.
